Tim Cimmer’s Breakthrough: Creating Cost-Effective Ice Tracks for Ice Cross
When Tim Cimmer founded World Ice Cross League in 2014, he knew that creating a cost-effective way to build ice tracks would be essential to the sport’s growth. During his time in Finland, Cimmer partnered with Laajis ski hill to design a functional yet affordable track. Using a snowcat and groomer, they carved out the track’s rollercoaster-like curves and jumps in just six hours, with a budget of less than $1,500.
This innovation made Ice Cross more accessible to organizers and participants around the world. By utilizing existing ski hills and natural terrain, Cimmer was able to keep costs low without sacrificing the excitement and challenge of the tracks. The simplicity of his design made it possible for smaller events to flourish, expanding the sport globally.
Cimmer’s ingenuity wasn’t just about creating tracks—it was about building a sustainable infrastructure for Ice Cross to thrive. His methods allowed the sport to evolve quickly, capturing the attention of extreme sports fans and athletes alike. Today, his cost-effective solutions continue to support the rapid growth of Ice Cross around the world.
